Q: Why?
A: Because you deserve it. And we were bored. And we got drink tickets.
Q: When?
A: March 1990, Barry Thomas, Ben Daughtrey, Chris Hawpe and Jonathan Palmer performed their first show under the name Lounge Jones, at Tewligan's Tavern in Louisville, Ky. They opened for a band called Vova Nova. Over the following few months, the band came to the conclusion that the name Love Jones was cooler, and quickly amassed a following that counted on Love Jones shows for a) groovy danceable pop, b) raucous, drunken barbs between band members and the audience and c) a fine looking women. Yes, it's true, goofy music made by goofy looking guys with a penchant for drink brings out the ladies. At least it did in Louisville, Kentucky in the late '80s and early '90s. Good times. Stuart Johnson joined the band eventually, and they moved to L.A. where they became American cultural icons. But that's another story.
Q: Where?
A: Like we said above....Tewligan's Tavern in Louisville. The club -- located in Louisville's snooty Highlands neighborhood -- was at the time the preeminent independent music establishment in the area, a regular stop for renowned touring bands and a reliable outlet for developing local and regional talent. Among the Louisville bands that called Tewligan's home in their heydays: Squirrel Bait (for whom Ben played drums), Babylon Dance Band, King Kong, Bodeco, and many many more. The club stayed open 'til 4 a.m. most nights and regardless of who ran the place, they always managed to feature the world's worst selection of beer and alcohol, and at one point had the audacity to serve pizza that tasted like human shit. Ben was once kicked out for trying to overturn the CD jukebox one fateful night. That's the thanks you get for bringing in paying customers...Looking back, he was really onto something. Q: How?
A: Well, first a man and a woman fall in love. And then they get married. Then, the man puts his ho-ho into the woman's bo-bo. And the rest is show biz magic.
Q: What?
A: A magical band of jackasses banding together to play a peculiar blend of pop, lounge, R&B, and Celtic fusion. Now eat it.
