The Story

Produced by Earle Mankey at his home studio in Thousand Oaks, CA, this was the band's first vinyl release, and the second overall release on Chicago's Minty Fresh label. Minty Fresh went on to introduce us all to such fine pop bands as the Cardigans, Tahiti 80, Komeda, and Papas Fritas, among others. This was also the first collaboration with keyboardist Jon Brion (who has collaborated with Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann and many more, in addition to scoring the film "Magnolia"). Brion is credited as "Spanky Lee," due to contractual constraints he was under at the time. The cover photograph was taken by renowned porn box photographer Dean Karr, and it caused quite a stir within the LJ family as the photo depicts Ben injecting drugs into his future wife's arm. Karr has since gone on to a career as a fancy pants video director with bona fide rock star clients like Dave Matthews and Three Doors Down. Or maybe it's 3 Doors Down. Ben has since gone on to a career as a fancy pants father of two, and he and his wife are both drug-free.
